Remote jobs that require a Mac: what the work is and what it pays

Six remote contract roles ask for a Mac, each at $50-$60 an hour. What the work is, the exact Mac requirements, and what to check before applying.

Some remote contract roles only consider applicants who own a Mac. JobFetch currently lists six of them. All six are remote, pay $50-$60 an hour, and state the same hardware requirement. This guide covers what the work is, the exact Mac requirement, and what to check before you apply.

The featured role: Generalist

The Generalist role supports a research project with a leading AI lab. You create high-quality research questions, answers and evaluation materials used to train advanced language models.

  • Pay: $50-$60 per hour (hourly contract), paid weekly through Stripe or Wise.
  • Hours: part-time, about 10-20 hours per week, on your own schedule. Immediate start preferred.
  • Background: a Master's degree you are currently pursuing or have recently completed, or 2-3 years of relevant experience plus a Bachelor's degree.
  • Skills: strong online research and written communication, and the ability to gather information from diverse sources and summarize it clearly.
  • Application: submit a resume, have a short (3-minute) conversation with an AI interviewer about research and reasoning, then complete a brief paid assessment. Expect a follow-up within a few days.

The listing notes that H1-B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported at this time, and that projects may be extended, shortened or ended early depending on needs and performance.

Five more roles that require a Mac

All five are remote contract roles at $50-$60 per hour, with the same Mac requirement as the Generalist role.

The Mac requirement, word for word

Every one of the six listings states it the same way:

"You must own a MacBook or Mac with an Apple M-series chip or Intel processor, running macOS 15 or higher. Applicants without a Mac cannot be considered."

An Intel Mac qualifies if it runs macOS 15 or higher. So does any Mac with an Apple M-series chip.

Before you apply

  • Check eligibility. None of the six listings states which countries are eligible, and remote does not mean worldwide. Check with the hiring company before you spend time on an application.
  • Read the full listing. Requirements beyond the Mac differ by role. The developer role asks for everyday macOS developer tools such as VS Code, Xcode, Terminal, Git and package managers. The power-user role asks for deep familiarity with macOS and its apps, keyboard-driven workflows and system settings.
  • Apply from the job's page. Each Apply button opens the company's own application page, and you apply there yourself.

To find them on the jobs page, search "MacBook" or browse every open role.
