Overview

Use chemistry and computational chemistry expertise to train and benchmark next-generation AI systems with real-world scientific input.

Responsibilities

  • Create, assess and critique chemistry problems, computational workflows and chains of reasoning for AI benchmarks.
  • Contribute specialist judgment on reaction mechanisms, synthesis planning, spectroscopy, molecular simulation and electronic-structure methods.
  • Check and improve experimental protocols, simulation settings and software configuration for correct, reproducible results.
  • Interpret chemical, spectroscopic and simulation data and recommend actions.
  • Help develop and validate AI tools and models for chemistry using domain expertise.
  • Explain complex science clearly in writing and speech to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Record findings, methods and good practice so the customer's team can reuse the knowledge.

Requirements

  • A PhD in chemistry, computational chemistry, chemical biology, materials science or a closely related discipline.
  • Hands-on research-lab experience: wet-lab work for experimental specialisms, or extensive simulation-based research for computational specialisms.
  • Deep expertise in at least one welcomed area: organic synthesis and reaction mechanisms; inorganic and organometallic chemistry; physical and theoretical chemistry; analytical chemistry and spectroscopy; computational chemistry and molecular dynamics; cheminformatics and drug discovery; materials science and polymer chemistry.
  • Professional written and spoken English at C1 level or higher.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or standard tools used in the relevant subfield, such as Gaussian, ORCA, Psi4, GROMACS, LAMMPS or RDKit.
  • Excellent quantitative, analytical and scientific reasoning.
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication, including clear technical explanation and documentation.
  • Evidence of rigorous problem-solving in complex chemistry research.

Preferred

  • Academic work as a postdoc, research scientist, faculty member or equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • Peer-reviewed papers, patents or contributions to open-source scientific software.
  • Experience with AI/ML-assisted chemistry workflows or benchmarking.
  • Work in drug discovery, reaction prediction or retrosynthesis.

Engagement and pay

  • Pay: $45-$90 per hour (USD).
  • Remote contractor. Weekly hours, engagement length and start date are not stated.
